Drain Repairs - Pitch Fibre
Pitch fibre pipe work was commonly installed between the 1950’s and 1970’s due to it being a cheaper alternative to clay pipes. As with any product, it has a limited lifetime and pitch fibre is unfortunately nearing its end. The pipe work will commonly become deformed, whether it be a bulged or squished, leading to a restricted flow in the pipe.
Depending on the severity of the problem, there are 2 options for repair. If the problem is identified early enough and the pipe work is not too heavily deformed, it may be possible to ‘re-round’ the pipe work without excavation. Once the pipe has been re-rounded a structural resin liner can be installed within the pipe to prevent it from deforming again, thus greatly increasing its lifetime. If this is not an option, the pipe work will need to be excavated and new pipe work installed.
